Matt Megrue

He’s fronted the Atlanta pop-punk band, The Unusual Suspects, evolved into an indie rocker of Charleston’s Loner Society, and finally grown into a project that blends punk, emo, Americana and 80’s pop-nostalgia.

During our conversation, we discuss his latest album, The Mourner’s Manual, the lack of rock bands within the current music scene, candy cigarettes, and his own podcast, War and Drink. Don’t miss his album release party for The Mourner’s Manual this Saturday, February 7th, at The Royal American.

Retraction…I mentioned that Imagine Dragons was Grammy-nominated for a Best Rock Album, they were nominated for Billboard’s Top Rock Album.

Lindsay Holler

She’s a fixture in the Charleston music scene as a singer and guitarist. She’s a solo act as well as a leader in three other bands: Matadero, Lindsay Holler’s Western Polaroids, Lindsay Holler and The Hollerettes. Her most recent project the Women & Series at the Charleston Music Hall celebrates popular musicians while highlighting local talent.

This is Lindsay Holler…

Women & Willie is THIS Saturday night at Charleston Music Hall at 8 pm. You will get a chance to see a variety of local musicians for just $17.00. This production has been going strong for several years and growing to be one of the most popular events at the Music Hall (in my opinion).

Emily Curtis

“No one wants to get to the top by themselves.”

In this episode, I chat with local singer/songwriter, Emily Curtis, on the scarcity mindset that occurs amongst the music community. The idea is that musicians are afraid to promote and help other musicians for fear that there isn’t enough room for both acts. Besides discussing our music scene, we dive into the background of her latest single, “Ghost Stories” and how finding a mentor can make all the difference navigating the music industry. Listen to the full conversation below.

Brooke Ryan

In an effort to get back to the roots of Disco Teepee, I’m starting a series where I can connect with people about music. I will investigate how music plays a role in their life and get inside people’s heads and hearts about their relationship with music.

My first guest, Brooke Ryan, is 1/3 of the morning show, Two Girls and A Guy on Mix 95.9. As a radio personality, her livelihood is dependent upon music. She’s been working in this industry for over 20 years and I turned the mic around on her to get down and dirty about radio and why she will forever be faithful to music that creates a sense of nostalgia.
Listen to our chat below and let me know what you think. What’s your relationship with music? We’ve all got a story to tell so let’s share it together.
