My name is Meggie Hulsey and you are listening to Disco Teepee on WOHM Charleston 96.3 Ohm Radio<\/strong> <\/p>\n\n\n\n And I know what you\u2019re thinking, um, Meggie, what is a Disco Teepee? <\/p>\n\n\n\n Well, I\u2019m so glad that you asked\u2026<\/p>\n\n\n\n Each month, Disco Teepee is going to be a gathering spot for different music, moods, and musicians. It\u2019s a community that you can find wherever you go for those that live a nomadic life, constantly on the road chasing the next show, concert, or festival. So while you\u2019re here, wherever you are, I\u2019ll make sure to keep you dancing like you\u2019re at your own disco. <\/p>\n\n\n\n So hopefully that may have cleared some things up or perhaps not. Either Way, let\u2019s talk about music shall we and that should hopefully ease any confusion. <\/p>\n\n\n\n On today\u2019s show, it\u2019s all about my Cosmic Cowgirls (please note, this can be cosmic humans, men, however you envision yourself) <\/p>\n\n\n\n Picture it, we\u2019re horseback riding through the mountains of Montana wearing neon chaps. We\u2019re untamed, owning our uniqueness while heading into the unknown. <\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s a picture, right? If anything, it\u2019s certainly a moment. Well, this grouping of musicians embodies that wild and adventurous energy. <\/p>\n\n\n\n So let\u2019s kick things off with Kacey Musgraves\u2019 \u201cHigh Horse\u201d. This single is from her Grammy-winning album, Golden Hour, which was released in 2018. This album won Best Album of the Year and Country Album of the Year. In 2020, it was ranked number 270 on Rolling Stone\u2019s 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. Let\u2019s giddy up and get down, this is \u201chigh horse\u201d by Kacey Musgraves. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cHigh Horse\u201d <3:33> <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDarling, you take the high horse, and I\u2019ll take the high road.\u201d Kacey has such a talent for word play and this song is a great example of that. Also, I feel like I should apologize in advance since you\u2019ll probably hear a lot of her in upcoming shows. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Our next tune is from Nashville\u2019s pop, soul, rock n roll, The New Respects. This quartet sites Aretha Franklin, Led Zeppelin, and The Beatles as core influences which we can hear through their heavy and intricate grooves. We\u2019re going to hear their single, \u201cDon\u2019t Worry\u201d, which was released in May of 2022. This is The New Respects with \u201cDon\u2019t Worry\u201d. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cDon\u2019t Worry\u201d <3:00> <\/p>\n\n\n\n Alright, alright, alright.. Now it\u2019s starting to sound like a party. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Let\u2019s keep it going with another Nashville-based artist, Jamie Wyatt. Her second album, Neon Cross, was released in 2020 and produced by Shooter Jennings the son of famous country musicians, Waylon Jennings and Jessie Colter. I picked the single, \u201cRattlesnake Girl\u201d because selfishly I have a tattoo of a rattlesnake so I\u2019m immediately drawn to this song. <\/p>\n\n\n\n Growing up my father\u2019s term of endearment for me was \u201crattlesnake\u201d which at the time I didn\u2019t quite understand. As I\u2019ve aged, I\u2019ve become appreciative of such a title. Very much like this song, looks can be deceiving and toughness and the willingness to strike, if needed, will be a personality trait I can relate to. Here\u2019s Jamie Wyatt\u2019s \u201cRattlesnake Girl\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cRattlesnake Girl\u201d by Jamie Wyatt <3:22><\/p>\n\n\n\n We\u2019re venturing across the Atlantic for our next artist. This English songstress cites Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, and Aretha Franklin as inspirations. This tune, Starlight, is from her 2021 album, Stand For Myself. This is Starlight by Yola. <\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cStarlight\u201d by Yola <4:02><\/p>\n\n\n\n I feel like you cannot talk about this musician without mentioning her iconic acting role in the 1989 movie, Troop Beverly Hills. However, Jenny Lewis has lived several lives since retiring from acting in the 1990\u2019s to starting her indie rock band, Rilo Kiley. They released four albums and disbanded in 2014. Jenny went on to release four solo albums and today\u2019s song is from her 2019 On the Line album – – This is Red Bull and Hennessy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cRed Bull and Hennessy\u201d by Jenny Lewis <4:48><\/p>\n\n\n\n Our last artist on today\u2019s show is an electric blues artist from Harlem. Shemeka Copeland is the daughter of the Texas blues guitarist and singer Johnny Copeland. She\u2019s won several prestigious awards including Contemporary Blues Female Artist at the Blues Music Awards in 2016 and 2020. She\u2019s been nominated for a Grammy for Best Blues Album in 2013 and 2015. Lastly, she was inducted into the New York Blues Hall of Fame. So I think we can safely say, this woman is extremely talented.
