This was a special interview for me as Toad the Wet Sprocket<\/a>\u2019s songs were in constant rotation during my teenage years. In high school, songs like \u201cSomething is Always Wrong<\/a>\u201d and \u201cFalls Down<\/a>\u201d were covered by my friends\u2019 band, Japhy\u2019s Peak. I was that<\/em> kid tagging along to band practices and to every gig enthralled by the 90\u2019s alternative rock sound. These songs in particular, have stuck with me to present day and still bring a sonic sense of comfort when I\u2019m feeling nostalgic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fast forward to a few days ago when I had the opportunity to interview Glen Phillips<\/a> and Dean Dinning<\/a> of Toad the Wet Sprocket. Our conversation ranged from their first album purchases from The Muppet Movie<\/em> soundtrack<\/a> to The Beatles<\/a>‘ Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band<\/em><\/a> and even their favorite breakfast spot in Charleston, Callie’s Hot Little Biscuit<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n A notable topic of discussion was their loyal fanbase and how they’ve continue to maintain it over the years. It all started as sending snail mail postcards with tour dates to fans and even sending physical copies of early demos including their 1991 hit, “Walk on the Ocean<\/a>“. That mailing list quickly grew to 70,000 names including Darius Rucker<\/a>\u2019s mother\u2019s home address and Counting Crows<\/a>\u2019 frontman, Adam Duritz, before the band existed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Their latest release, All You Want<\/a><\/em>, is a remastered greatest hits album featuring fan-favorite tunes and the new single, “Best of Me (2023)<\/a>“.
